Nepenthe
Nepenthe is situated in the cool climate, high altitude and picturesque Adelaide Hills region in South Australia. Our hand-crafted, premium and award-winning cult wines are built on the strength of true varietal character and subtle regional nuances.
Passionate winemaking, innovative grape varieties and careful vineyard management ensure that Nepenthe’s exciting and elegant range of wines are the benchmark for the region.
No more evident is this benchmark that in our fantastic achievement of being awarded Australia’s ‘best Sauvignon Blanc over $16’ at the revered Decanter World Wine Awards in London in 2012, the second time in four years we’ve been awarded this highly coveted trophy.
Our mantra is simple – Nepenthe is the Adelaide Hills.
Nepenthe: described by Homer in The Odyssey as an Egyptian herbal drink so powerful that it eases grief and banishes sorrow from the mind.
Nepenthe was established in 1994. The first vineyard established was the 24 hectare Lenswood vineyard in 1994, which meanders over small hills and into valleys.
Nepenthe produces uncompromising wines of outstanding quality and internationally recognised distinction. Wines that have been impressing both critics and consumers with their varietal faithfulness and subtle Adelaide Hills nuances.
Nepenthe expanded and in 1997 Nepenthe acquired a property in Charleston within the Adelaide Hills and has planted a further 43 hectares of vineyard. Then in 2002 a 25 hectare vineyard was acquired in Balhannah (where our cellar door is located), and in 2005 Nepenthe acquired 38 hectares in Hahndorf.
