McGuigan Wines won a phenomenal five trophies at last week’s Royal Adelaide Wine Show for its 2005 Earth’s Portrait Eden Valley Riesling. Receiving top recognition as ‘Winemaker of the Most Outstanding Red or White Wine in Show’, the wine’s creator Thomas Jung also accepted the major trophy for ‘Most Outstanding Red or White Wine in Show’ and trophies for ‘Best Riesling in Show’, ‘Best White Wine Under $20’ and ‘Best White Wine in Show’. Out-performing the big, bold reds that are the traditional front-runners in Adelaide, this Eden Valley Riesling demonstrates the complementary approach that McGuigan winemakers apply to their Rieslings and much-awarded Hunter Valley Semillons. Remarking that as a style Riesling should be recognised as a wine for the future, General Manager of Production & Wine Supply, Neil McGuigan believes that consumers worldwide are looking for more elegant, aromatic wines with lightness of palate. “We have continued to push varietal definition and intensity in all our wines” he said, “and it is a great compliment to our team that this commitment is winning domestic accolades.” The significance of these results reflects the McGuigan winemaking team’s commitment to Riesling and is something that Neil McGuigan is tremendously proud of. “Riesling has been around for a long time,” he said, “and it is an iconic Australian wine, but when made in the elegant style, as shown in our winning 2005 Earth’s Portrait offering, its proves the potential of this style as one to watch.” Group Chief Winemaker, Thomas Jung created this Riesling to ensure a restrained wine whilst young but with the structure and balance to develop with bottle age. Along with the 2004 vintage release, which also picked up a Gold Medal in Adelaide, the fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the Eden Valley and grown with care to ensure the high levels of fruit intensity. Unique winemaking techniques at McGuigan’s premium Barossa Valley winery complement the handcrafted approach to these wines. McGuigan Wines is committed to producing wines from the best regions around Australia that are benchmarks domestically and internationally. The brand’s award-winning Eden Valley Riesling, Hunter Valley Semillon, Langhorne Creek and Barossa Valley Shiraz and Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon reflect its continuing dedication to creating iconic Australian wines.Return
