June 2, 2008: Brian McGuigan AM was last week honoured as an official ‘Living Legend’ at the second annual Hunter Valley Wine Industry Awards. In a poignant moment, Brian’s father Perc, who himself was inaugurated last year, presented the award to his son, one of the wine industry’s most versatile and well-known figures. As part of an initiative set up last year, Brian joins the six founding ‘Legends’, selected for having made a significant contribution to the success and welfare of the Hunter Valley wine industry.The founder of McGuigan Wines, Brian is synonymous with wine. His vision to create a mainstream brand of quality wines driven by consumer trends challenged the traditional industry formula. Utilising his skills as a winemaker, viticulturist, marketer and communications specialist, Brian is renowned for taking his wines to consumers all over Australia and around the world.Brian McGuigan was the Managing Director of McGuigan Simeon Wines Limited until February 2006 and Managing Director of Wyndham Estate Wines Limited from 1970 to 1991. Currently on the Board of Australian Vintage Limited (formerly McGuigan Simeon Wines Limited), Brian is also Chairman of the Newcastle Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Deputy Chairman of Tower Estate Wines Pty Ltd, a Director of the Hunter Wine Country Private Irrigation District and a Director of the Winemakers Federation of Australia.Return
